(Purple Haze By Cinn City Choppers)
“So what are you going to call it?” I asked of Chris Gavitt of Cinn City Choppers in Cincinnati Ohio.
“How about 'Purple Haze?'” I said. Chris paused for a moment and replied “ That is so cool. That’s it.”
Chris started this latest project at the beginning of the summer from a wrecked bike that belongs to Johnny Williams also known as Buzz. The final product is nothing short of breathtaking.
Buzz wanted a bike that was a trip back in time. This trip stops in the 60’s. Set on a Springer front end and an 1989 Softail Chassis. From the Royal Purple paintjob to the classic Maltese Crosses on the tank caps and at the top of the 3 foot tall Sissy Bar the exhaust pipes rise almost as high as the Sissy Bar.
The pipes measure 86 inches from manifold to the tips Fire this baby up and it growls like a small block Chevy. As they say on TV, “But that’s not all…”. The seat alone is a masterpiece in workmanship with black leather facing outward and the seat surface is a purple studded crushed quilted velvet. This bike is truly “Retro”. I could clearly imagine Jimi Hendrix tooling down the road on this beast.
Buzz chose to keep the standard Harley Engine and a RevTec 6 Speed transmission, 18 Inch Ape Hangers, Forward Controls, Chrome Spoked Rims, Maltese Cross Mirrors, and a custom made dash among numerous other custom pieces.
Chris has been building award-winning bikes since he was 14 years old. He used to drag race for a number of years in the 80's, so he knows a thing or two about engine work and performance enhancements. As The Horse Magazine describes him, "He's not just an assembler, he's a die hard wrench who can field strip an engine blind folded."
Gavitt has a passion for bikes from new sleek street choppers to this True Old School Retro Revival. Cinn City is the place to build an eye popping original street rod.
